Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to support purchasing and supply chain operations. This role is responsible for procuring materials, components, and services required to meet production schedules while maintaining cost, quality, and delivery standards.
The Buyer will collaborate closely with production control, inside sales, suppliers, and other internal teams to ensure materials are available when needed and inventory levels are effectively managed. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, takes ownership of their work, and understands the impact purchasing has on on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase materials, components, and supplies based on production requirements, MRP signals, and inventory levels
- Issue purchase orders and confirm pricing, quantities, and delivery timelines with suppliers
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up on past-due or at-risk deliveries
- Communicate material availability, shortages, and risks to production control, inside sales, and planning teams
- Work with suppliers to resolve delivery issues, quality concerns, and discrepancies
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, pricing, and supplier information in the ERP system
- Support inventory management by balancing material availability with excess and obsolete risk
- Assist with sourcing new suppliers and evaluating supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery)
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to purchasing processes, lead times, and cost reduction
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard office software
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of purchasing or buyer experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
- Understanding of lead times, BOMs, and production-driven purchasing
- Experience working closely with production control or planning teams
- Familiarity with supplier negotiations and cost management
- Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certifications preferred
