Temporary Production Coordinator – Purchasing Support

Assignment Type: Temporary position lasting through the end of the year

The Temporary Production Coordinator – Purchasing Support role will work closely with the Purchasing and Accounting teams to investigate invoices, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure accurate transaction processing in SAP. This position requires strong Excel experience, SAP skills, purchasing knowledge, reconciliation experience, and a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate will be analytical, organized, and comfortable using critical-thinking skills in an accounting and manufacturing environment.

Schedule: 1st shift, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Location: Decatur, AL

Pay: $22 per hour

Job Duties

  • Investigate invoices and verify accuracy against purchasing records, receipts, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform invoice reconciliation and research discrepancies using Excel, SAP, and other internal reports.
  • Work directly with Purchasing, Accounting, Logistics, Operations, and plant stakeholders to resolve entry errors and documentation issues.
  • Review open process orders by running various reports through SAP.
  • Ensure correct system goods issue (GI) and documentation of ingredients and raw materials.
  • Ensure correct system goods receipt (GR) and documentation of output materials.
  • Track down and help correct transaction entry errors, including faulty goods movements and backflush errors.
  • Ensure packaging and other non-batch managed materials are correctly backflushed through each process order.
  • Confirm, correct, balance, and close appropriate process orders in a timely manner.
  • Create cycle counts of ZMIL and ZSFG materials as directed.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling daily plant operations to support efficient use of personnel and equipment.
  • Review equipment, process checklists, production reports, and related documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Recommend process improvements that help minimize waste, improve efficiency, maintain specifications, and reduce operating costs.
  • Verify that products meet specifications and quality standards before shipment.
  • Maintain neat, orderly, clean, and safe work areas in accordance with safety, quality, and sanitary standards.
  • Work effectively with plant supervision, USDA, State, and other agency inspectors as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Must have strong Excel experience.
  • Must have SAP experience; strong SAP skills preferred.
  • Purchasing experience required.
  • Invoice investigation, reconciliation, or accounting support experience required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills in an accounting, purchasing, or manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Mechanical or analytical abilities and understanding of production processes preferred.
  • Experience with SAP transaction codes preferred, including COGI, COR2, COR3, COR6N, COOISPI, MIGO, MMBE, MB-51, MI01, and MI04.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, follow-up, and documentation skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and departments.
  • Demonstrated work history and good attendance are required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise and changing temperatures such as hot, wet, cold, and humid conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and maneuver around manufacturing equipment throughout the shift.
  • Noise levels may exceed 85 dB; hearing protection is required where applicable.
  • Good visual acuity, including the ability to see and differentiate color.
  • Shift flexibility required. This is a hands-on role supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation, and schedules may include rotating shifts, days, swing shift, night shift, weekends, vacation coverage, plant downtime, audits, or other business needs.
