This individual will drive innovation in rods, reels, lures, terminal tackle, and accessories while ensuring products meet performance expectations, market demand, quality standards, and profitability targets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Product Innovation & Lifecycle Management

  • Own the complete product lifecycle, including ideation, design, prototyping, testing, production, launch, growth, and discontinuation.
  • Identify emerging trends in freshwater fishing and outdoor recreation to develop competitive, market-relevant products.
  • Collaborate with pro staff, anglers, customers, and internal stakeholders to gather insights and validate product concepts.
  • Translate product ideas into detailed specifications, including materials, performance standards, feature requirements, and target costs.
  • Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously while maintaining timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans to ensure successful execution and timely product launches.
  • Coordinate packaging, branding, and go-to-market readiness with internal teams.
  • Spend time in the field and on the water evaluating products to ensure real-world performance and customer satisfaction.

Product Development & Testing

  • Oversee the development of fishing rods, reels, lures, terminal tackle, and related accessories.
  • Coordinate field testing with anglers and industry professionals to validate durability, functionality, action, and performance.
  • Analyze test results and customer feedback to refine products and improve overall performance.
  • Ensure all products meet company standards for quality, functionality, innovation, and design.
  • Make timely decisions that support efficient product development and speed-to-market initiatives.

Sourcing & Supplier Management

  • Lead sourcing efforts with domestic and international manufacturers, with a strong emphasis on Asia-based suppliers.
  • Identify and develop new supplier relationships to support product innovation and cost objectives.
  • Negotiate pricing, minimum order quantities (MOQs), production schedules, and delivery timelines.
  • Communicate product requirements and project expectations clearly with suppliers to ensure successful development and production.
  • Travel as needed to supplier and manufacturing facilities to oversee production, improve processes, and maintain quality standards.
  • Build and maintain long-term supplier partnerships that support innovation, consistency, and cost efficiency.

Business Leadership & Category Management

  • Own product-level profit and loss performance, including cost targets, pricing strategy, and margin objectives.
  • Drive category profitability through assortment planning, forecasting, inventory management, and strategic cost control.
  • Analyze sales performance and market trends to optimize product mix, inventory commitments, and pricing strategies.
  • Develop long-range product plans and lifecycle replacement strategies that position the company ahead of market trends.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all product-related initiatives and cross-functional communication.
  • Communicate product vision, timelines, and updates across sales, marketing, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Support sales efforts through product expertise, competitive positioning, and customer-facing product knowledge.
  • Provide product training and education to internal teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, product development, sourcing, or category management.
  • Experience within the fishing industry, outdoor recreation industry, or consumer products industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fishing techniques, fishing equipment, and current market trends.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
